Staff and volunteers at the museum were in for a treat today when one of our young visitors, Gemma Patrick, brought in some textile work to share with us.
Gemma, aged 8 from Perth in Western Australia, has been doing latch hook work with her local craft club and made her first piece when she was only 6 years old! The designs are draw out onto Hessian, and then the yarn is looped into place using a special machine which Gemma describes as working “a bit like a whisk – you turn the handle and it loops the thread though the canvas”.
Colourful, vibrant and full of fun, her work is absolutely stunning and brought a smile to all our faces!
Thank you Gemma for bringing your work to show us today!
Have you got anything you’ve made which you would like to share with the Museum? Bring it along – we’d love to see what beautiful crafts you’ve been creating!
