Gemma with her beautiful work

Staff and volunteers at the museum were in for a treat today when one of our young visitors, Gemma Patrick, brought in some textile work to share with us.

Gemma, aged 8 from Perth in Western Australia, has been doing latch hook work with her local craft club and made her first piece when she was only 6 years old! The designs are draw out onto Hessian, and then the yarn is looped into place using a special machine which Gemma describes as working “a bit like a whisk – you turn the handle and it loops the thread though the canvas”.

Colourful, vibrant and full of fun, her work is absolutely stunning and brought a smile to all our faces!
