‘A Journey to Japan’ – the museum’s summer exhibition opens to the public on Tuesday 3rd July 2018
The exhibition will feature the Museum’s extensive collection of beautiful Japanese ink
paintings and stencils, originally part of Michael Tomkinson’s (1841-1921) collection of
Japanese artefacts.  The fine and delicate stencils, believed to be from the same period, were used to create repeating patterns on textiles.
Friends and Volunteers are invited to a Private Viewing on Saturday 30th June at 2.00 till 4.00pm.

* Japanese Garden – Wednesday 13th June at 3.00pm. An exclusive opportunity to visit the beautiful garden inspired by Lady Perry at her home Bridge Stone Mill, Alfrick. Talk about the house and garden with tea and cakes. A limited number of tickets at £10 available at museum reception. Visit for Friends and Volunteers only.

* Kumihimo – Japanese Braiding Workshop – Wednesday 11th July from 10am – 4pm led by Julie Hedges
£35 including materials, tea, coffee and biscuits. Advance booking required.

* ‘Journey to Japan’ – Richard Pugh-Cook Room Friday 20th July at 2pm. £12.50 advance booking required.

* Family Theatre – Thursday 23rd August 10.30 – 12.30pm. Go on a journey to Japan in 1888 with Michael Tomkinson played by actor Jonathan Darby. Fun packed morning of discovery, suitable for under 11 year olds.
£15 family ticket £5 adult £3.50 child. Advance booking required. Free entry to Museum of Carpet.
* Japanese Flower Arranging – Ikebana demonstration on Wednesday 29th August 10.30-12.30pm
A unique opportunity to see the experts in this amazing Japanese art-form create stunning art
works – Angela and Takashi Sawano have taught and worked in Japan and UK.
