Melvyn Thompson speaks from experience!

Melvyn was born in Kidderminster in 1937, the son of a well-respected carpet loom tuner.  It was inevitable that a life-long career in the local carpet industry awaited him too.

Now retired, Melvyn spends much of his free time as a volunteer with the Carpet Museum Trust where he is our Historian and Chairman of the Friends organisation. History is his passion and he has written many articles and also published five books with local themes, under his own name and in collaboration with others.

Much of our bookable programme of talks and walks are based on Melvyn’s own books Woven in Kidderminster and Mills & Tall Chimneys ; or on Weaving in Bridgnorth and The Illustrated History of The Kidderminster & Stourport Electric Tramway Company, both of which he co-wrote.

If you book one of our  Talks and Walks for your group, copies of Melvyn’s books can be made available with a good discount for your members.

For more information about Melvyn, see his website.
